Aspley is one of the established suburbs of Brisbane's north, stretched along Gympie Road between Carseldine and Chermside. It's around fifteen minutes from our Brendale base, and we look after lawns, gardens and hedges here for homeowners, as well as shared grounds for townhouse complexes.
Most Aspley yards have had decades to grow into themselves. Mature trees, long-established hedges and lawns that have been patched and re-patched over the years are typical, and many owners want someone reliable to stay on top of it rather than a big weekend job every few months.
Homes and blocks in Aspley
Aspley stayed a farming district until the 1950s. Once its status as part of Brisbane's green belt was lifted, the farms were subdivided, and through the 1960s and 1970s the suburb filled with low-set, mostly brick homes on standard suburban blocks. Many of those houses are still there, now surrounded by mature gardens, carports and backyard sheds.
Since then, some older blocks have been redeveloped as townhouses and small unit complexes. That gives Aspley two quite different kinds of grounds work: individual family yards with established gardens, and common areas shared by a whole complex and looked after by a body corporate.
Around Aspley
Gympie Road has run through Aspley since it was the route north to the goldfields, and today it's lined with shops and businesses. Away from the main road, the streets are quieter, with Cabbage Tree Creek and Little Cabbage Tree Creek crossing the suburb. The district was actually called Little Cabbage Tree Creek until residents had it renamed Aspley in 1897.
For us, Aspley sits between our Carseldine and Chermside work, which makes regular visits easy to fit into the same runs. Homes near the creeks and the parkland along them tend to need a bit more boundary work than the rest of the suburb.
Aspley is around 15 minutes from our Brendale base in normal traffic. View Aspley on Google Maps.
Common maintenance issues in Aspley
What we see most on Aspley properties:
Tired older lawns
Lawns laid decades ago are often thin and compacted, with weeds and other grasses mixed through.
Hedges that have outgrown the yard
Screens planted when the house was built are now often well above head height and shading the garden.
Creek-side boundaries
Yards near the creeks pick up weeds and leaf litter from the creek corridor, and low ground stays soft after rain.
Small, busy common areas
Townhouse complexes have narrow garden strips, shared paths and visitor parks that show neglect quickly.
Trees over roofs and driveways
Mature trees drop leaves and twigs onto lawns, gutters and paving for much of the year.
Bringing an established Aspley yard up to date
A lot of Aspley yards were landscaped once, when the house was new, and maintained around the edges ever since. Over forty or fifty years, garden beds lose their shape, shrubs crowd each other out and the lawn gives way under trees that have grown far bigger than anyone planned. Mowing alone doesn't fix that.
Our usual approach is a one-off refresh first: cut hedges and shrubs back to a manageable size, clear out dead growth and take the green waste away, re-edge the beds, top them up with mulch and treat the lawn weeds. If the turf is thin and compacted, aeration, top dressing and fertiliser in spring give it the best chance to thicken up. After that, regular visits hold it at that standard.
For townhouse complexes, we work to a written scope agreed with the body corporate or strata manager, so owners know what's covered on each visit and every part of the complex is kept to the same standard. See strata grounds maintenance.

Aspley FAQs
Do you service Aspley?
Yes. Aspley is around fifteen minutes from our Brendale base along Gympie Road, and we group visits here with Carseldine and Chermside.
Can you fix an old, patchy lawn in Aspley?
Often, yes. Thin lawns usually respond to aeration, top dressing, fertiliser and weed control in spring. Where most of the grass has gone, new turf may be the better option. See lawn restoration.
Do you look after townhouse complexes in Aspley?
Yes. We maintain common areas for body corporates on a set visit day, and quote from a site walk with the strata manager or committee.
Can you deal with weeds coming in from the creek?
Yes. We cut back and spot-treat weeds along fences that back onto the creek corridors, taking care with product choice and spray drift near the water.
Can you cut back a hedge that's grown over the fence?
Yes. We reduce badly overgrown hedges in stages if needed, usually starting in spring, and take all the clippings away.
